"Rezitative" for trombone and piano are based on a form of a rondo.
Each recitative has a recurring unchanged introduction. The three recitatives comparable with couplets in a classical rondo are characterised by their character of narration. The trombone "tells" us three emotional conditions: Exalted (1st recitative), with ease, sentimental and "con spirito (2nd recitative), hectically and fast (3rd. recitative). All introductions the player plays open (without mute). For each recitative he uses different mutes to characterise the different conditions.
